New carnage at Huntington Beach

Just like last year, Coastal Carnage will be a an invite only Mini Bowl jam with a $75,000 purse on August 6th-8th 2010 in Huntington Beach, California. This event is sponsored by Converse Shoes. Thursday and Friday are Practice, Saturday is for Qualifying and Sunday is the finals. The mini bowl jam format is broken up into 10 qualifying rounds which pit four riders against each other at the same time.

Last year’s event was just one event out of many down at Huntington Beach that weekend. Getting to and from the event, however, was a spectacle beyond imagination: it took me 45mn to find a parking space, I then I had to walk 45 more minutes to get to the beach and to the event itself. Sunday was the most crowded I’ve ever seen Huntington Beach ever. What normally is a ten minute jaunt up PCH from Costa Mesa to Huntington Beach became a one hour creep under a baking sun amongst anxious beachgoers from all walks of the planet. The Mini Bowl was awesome, the flow was perfect which enabled lines for days and would be months had it been left up that long. I couldn’t see the possibilities of any boredom on a ramp like this take place any time soon, even after the finals and best trick guys were still getting some. My Kudos goes to the boys at Converse (and Seth Elson who designed half of it) for putting a lethal ramp together resulting in total skateboard Carnage.

Below is a drawing of the bowl.
