Tony Alva: my prerogatives

Pass The Bucket: We are so glad we have Tony Hawk to represent skateboarding in front of the mainstream masses. Tony Hawk is (still) young, he is healthy, he is probably the best skateboarder ever, he is successful, and he has everything that he wants: fame and fortune. We respect Tony Hawk for what he is and what he has brought to skateboarding. But, although we like him, Tony Hawk is not our heartfelt brah. When he divorced from his wife, the news went viral over the net for several weeks but it was irrelevant to us. That’s because we have other kind of heroes to celebrate. Ones that might not be as rich and famous and healthy and happy as Tony Hawk but that represent our past and culture and struggle and heritage and that’s the way we love them. Tony Alva is one of them. Tony Alva was down for a while struggling drug addiction and alcoholism. There, at his lowest point, TA’s reliance on successes, prerogatives and ego came into perspective. Tony’s fight for sobriety and truth has recently led him to a new perspective and openings toward life and he found a new direction to moving forward. Dedicated to giving back, Tony now sees that to Pass The Bucket is the only way out.
