The world's biggest skateboarding pool:

On Saturday, the 10th of October 2009, the word was out that the biggest evolution in skateboarding since the Megaramp was about to happen in a backyard thanks to Bucky Lasek. Taking the DIY concept of backyard skateboarding on step further, Bucky built the world’s largest skateboarding pool, which would give rise to a new skateboarding era, a hybrid between modern vert ramps and the modern skate pool, (insofar just about any shape). All of this built in his small backyard. That is, if you would call a couple of acres a “backyard”.

Bucky’s massive concrete pool is affectionately known as “Heaven”. He decided to build the giant pool because, most of the bowls around San Diego, Southern California or even around the world, weren't big enough for his stature. The pool is almost 14ft deep (exactly 13 1/2 feet deep ) in the arrow head end (which is the deep end) and about 13ft deep in the round end. The two are separated by a mellow hip and about a 7ft shallow end that also functions as a line builder and has 2 very workable hips. The arrow head consists of 2 elbows and an extra large round corner. Riding that pool really is a totally new skate experience in that it so effectively mixes two very different styles of skating; modern vert skating and classic backyard pool skating.

A lot of pros and masters have skated Heaven and some locals and friends are coming very often: Chris Miller, Dan Navarette, Chris Conway, Peter Hewitt. Some friendly contests have taken place there with Hosoi, Cab and others. After a feature in Jeff Grosso’s Loveletters to skateboarding a couple of weeks ago it was the time for Bucky to present one of the 7th wonders of skateboarding.
