The Maloof Money Cup New York Pro results are officially in. This Sunday afternoon, after a tough head-to-head bracket format, Greg Lutzka edged out dennis Busenitz in the final round. It was the matchup everyone was looking forward to, the current Tampa Pro champion Busenitz squaring off against the fan favorite Lutzka. Dennis Busenitz ripped hard all day but seemed a little more worn out than Lutzka, who had a pass straight into the second round after qualifiers yesterday. After beating Ryan Decenzo in the semi-finals Lutzka seemed definitely determined.

By winning the cup, Greg Lutzka pocketed $160,000. Ryan Decenzo landed third at the Maloof Skate Park at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, which was built last year by Vans and Joe and Gavin Maloof, who own the Sacramento Kings.

Twelve skaters qualified for the finals, which were contested head-to-head through three rounds before Lutzka and Busenitz made the final bracket.
“The head-to-head format was great, better than having five guys going at once,” Greg Lutzka said. “The crowd was so into it. It’s easier for them to follow it and it’s more exciting for them to watch. When you’re skating head to head with someone else, you vibe off them. You never know who you’re going to get paired with. It’s like a game of Mortal Kombat.”
Lutzka’s winning tricks ranged from a frontside 270 to backside nose bluntslide to a frontside bigspin to noseslide.

Evan Smith won the amateur title, earning $1,500 and a trip to the open qualifiers for the Maloof Money Cup South Africa. Riley Hawk, the 18-year-old son of Tony Hawk, finished 23rd.
Lutzka has seen his share of success in skate contests but the win in New York is by far his best and most profitable victory yet.
The Maloof Money Cup continues with stops in Washington, D.C., on Labor Day weekend; in Kimberley, South Africa, from Sept 30-Oct. 2; and Orange County, Calif., later in the fall.
