This fascinating event is an official contest on the calendar of the World Cup Skateboarding. If the contesters want to have a chance of winning the prestigious title, they better show off all their skills and talent. This event was supposed to be poured with a nice musical gravy with bands like Triggerfinger, The Opposites, Sir OJ and Flatcat but the concerts were cancelled a couple of days ago. As a result, tickets are now half-price. For Antwerp, The last week of August is a real "skate week”. If there is apotheosis in the Lotto Arena Antwerp Air Attack, not to be missed for lovers of cool moves and silly tricks.
Air Attack is the final European stop of the tour and, with prize money totalling €101,000 on offer, is both the biggest and most wanted event on the European tour. Air Attack and WCS have signed a contract for at least three years, which means that world cup skateboarding will also be hosted in Belgium in 2012 and 2013.
In the nineties, Air Attack was a big name in the Belgian skate scene and this year, Neal Hendrix is back in Belgium for Air Attack after 18 years! Neal won in 1992, this picture was taken in '93 when he finished 2nd after Tony Hawk. Air Attack took place a few times in the early 90's, then took a hiatus for 18 years and is now making a big comeback, especially with the WCS to back-it up. Rune Glifberg, Andy Scott (from England) and Neal Hendrix all competed in the last editions 17 and 18 years ago and are again competing this weekend. Phil Zwijsen, the pride of Belgium who is now ranked in the world’s top ten, will also be competing. Welcome back!
