Skateboarders: don’t post on Facebook, you are watched…

At Ocean City, NJ (nothing to do with the Ocean City MD were the last Dew Tour made a sensation last summer), the City had recently authorized the removal of the Skateboard Park in the 800 block of 6th Street. The work was in progress by members of Public Works but on Oct. 26, 2011, the Police Department was alerted by a "Facebook" activity involving the Skateboard Park. The postings revealed many subjects admitting to illegal activity at the park that included thefts and damage. One of the posts indicated "I didn't walk out of that place empty handed last night."
There is a post on the internet that’s giving more details and asking the citizens to denounce the skaters by providing the name of the officers and the telephone number of the locale police station. We are not giving the link of the post, of course. The story goes like this: As a result of some postings on "Facebook", Quote -“The Police Department established surveillance of the Skateboard Park during the overnight hours. At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers observed two persons exit a parked vehicle and attempt to gain entry into the secured park. The subjects left the area when no entry was gained to the park.
At approximately 12:45am, on Oct. 27, 2011, the same two subjects returned to the skateboard park along with a third person now riding BMX style bicycles. At this time, one subject gained entry into the park via a hole in the fence. The subject then attempted to remove a 20 foot section of "rail" and hand it to the other two subjects outside of the fenced in area of the park. Officers on the surveillance detail approached the subjects and placed them under arrest. All three adults were taken into custody without incident and released on summonses.” - End of Quote...

Of course, the city thinks it’s better to trash the rails and equipment than giving it to skateboarders. But the morale of that fable is: if you want to break-in a skatepark, don’t advertize it on Facebook, you morons, you are watched by Big Bother… Didn’t you know?
