Tony Hawk to address the NRPA members

Tony Hawk to address the NRPA members
Tony Hawk is a busy man. In early October Tony Hawk went to Washington, D.C., to visit the children at Shaw Middle School and discuss the importance of being active. He was also there to speak with members of both the House and Senate for the Up2Us National Summit. In addition to speaking about the importance of skateboarding, Tony Hawk is quite busy holding skatepark fundraisers, releasing a new line of children's books, serving as Grand Marshal at the IZOD INDYCAR Championships and preparing for an upcoming movie role where skateboarding and Parkour (Free Run) will be mixed for the first time. He is also on negotiation with Google on a YouTube project featuring on-demand channel of skateboarding videos. Two days ago, he was at Venice for the Generations of Skate contest that he won!!! Core skateboarders love to hate him, but Tony Hawk is one of the relentless advocates of the skateboarding industry. And this November the 43 year old retired skater will be headed to the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) Congress and Exposition in Atlanta, Georgia, to promote skateboarding and the creation of public skateparks to the NRPA's members.

At the NRPA Congress opening general session on Tuesday, Nov. 1, Hawk will discuss the importance of youth engagement through sports and the contributions of parks and recreation, as well as his efforts to give back through the Tony Hawk Foundation, which promotes and helps finance public skateparks in low-income neighborhoods. To date, the foundation has distributed more than $3.4 million to more than 450 skatepark projects in the U.S., enabling 3.5 million young people to enhance their skateboarding skills.

Tony Hawk will be opening up the organization's general meeting with a keynote address that is to be delivered in the Thomas B. Murphy Ballroom. The address will focus on why skateboarding, skateparks and sports in general are important for America's youth. Afterward, Hawk will be meeting one-on-one with 50 select event attendees. The select attendees are being chosen through a special raffle, details of which are available online. The rest of the three day event will consist of educational seminars and other assorted activities for convention attendees. Part of the other activities includes preparations for the organization's March 2012 meeting with members of the federal government in Washington, D.C. It is not yest know whether Hawk will also be participating in that event. Although, given his furry of activities, there is a good chance that he may very well end up addressing again the Capitol in 2012.
