Burnside Skatepark, which celebrated its 21st anniversary on Halloween night last month, was created without the permission of the city council, but was eventually granted an approval as a public skatepark and will now collaborate with Burnside Brewing Company to introduce a custom beer.

Jay Gilbert, one of the owners of Burnside Brewing Company, recently said "It's something we're all interested in doing. Now we're in the process of wracking our brains for a beer style and doing some test batches. We're thinking something more aggressive, with a higher alcohol content and a full-hop style. And we're hoping by spring to get label approval to sell 22-ounce bottles in and around Portland at first, with [wider distribution after that].”
According to Gilbert, the skatepark will benefit from the launch of the custom beer as the company plans on utilising a portion of the profit earned through the sale of the beer for concrete patching and maintaining the park. The intended motivation is to ensure that the park is well maintained and serves its purpose for at least another 21 years.
