Do you remember two years ago when the 1st ever Venice Massacre called the “Thanksgiving Day Massacre”, previously scheduled to happen on November 21, at the Dennis “Polar Bear” Agnew Memorial Skatepark, in Venice Beach was cancelled because the LAPD threatened to start enforcing the helmet law? Or more precisely, the Section 115800 of the California Health and Safety Code that mandates helmet, knee- and elbow-pads. Since most skaters at Venice we not wearing pads, the contest was postponed. At the time, the AB 874, an amendment by Lori Saldaña removed the knee- and elbow-pad requisites in the law, but kept the helmet requirement.
Since then, a lot of contests have taken place at the skatepark, including the 2009 Venice massacre, the 2010 Venice Massacre, The Venice Am series 2010 organized by Jeff Stern of the NSA, the Venice AM Series 2011

As usual the kids were rippin’. Kiko Francisco, Asher Bradshaw and especially Shane Borland. Shane was the master of the bowl. He skates every corner, every inch of the bowl like he has been in the bowl since he was born. Which is not far from reality anyway…
