The 30 most influential skaters of all time

With all the talks about dying magazines and an ailing USPS about to worsen the situation by cutting half of its workforce by 2015, delaying the deliveries by at least 8 days, there are still time when you are so happy to receive your magazines in the mail… I have known for a couple of days now that Transworld Skateboarding was about to publish the list of the 30 most influential skaters of the time for their 30th birthday. So I was more than happy when I opened the mail tonight and saw that Gonz was on the cover of Transworld. Happy because I know Transworld will be available in stores on December 20, and we, subscribers, got the premium to see the mag before the others. Yes, being a subscriber has its rewards…
For the past years, I have rarely been thrilled by the content of a skateboard mag. Interested, yes, very interested yes, but thrilled no… That special collector issue of Transworld is really what it says: a collector’s issue, something to keep for future generations. Not only the 30 best skaters of all time are reunited in its page, featuring highlights and interviews of the chosen 30 but it also boast a lot of interviews with Stacy Peralta (about his new documentary, The Bones Brigade), Allan Gelfand (about the Ollie), a list of the 10 most influential tricks of all time, and pictures of scores of board re-issues and so many other freebies …
Mark Gonzales, also known as “The Gonz,” has unanimously won the title as the most influential skateboarder of all time and had his portrait, shot by Brain Gaberman and tweaked by Shepard Fairey, on this month’s anniversary cover.

The Gonz is the first one of transworld 30 most influential skaters of all time
“The Gonz embodies the sheer essence of skateboarding, and we wouldn’t be the same without him,” wrote TWS in a press release for the issue. A commenter, Ty13x13, to the press release put it more simply: “Gonz is to skateboarding what Jesus is to Christianity.”
Transworld Skateboarding’s 30 Year Anniversary issue also coincide with the 20th birthday of the Half Cab and to mark this milestone, Vans will be releasing one new Half cab Colorway every month throughout the course of the year. The photo exhibition, showcasing TransWorld SKATEboarding’s 30 most influential skaters of all time, will travel around the world throughout 2012.

Looks like 2012 will be one of the best years ever for skateboarding.

The 30 most influential skaters of all time are:
Andrew Reynolds, Chad Muska, Christian Hosoi, Daewon Song, Danny Way, Duane Peters, Ed Templeton, Eric Koston, Geoff Rowley, Guy Mariano, Heath Kirchart, Jamie Thomas, Jason Dill, jason jessee, John Cardiel, Lance Mountain, Mark Gonzales, Matt Hensley, Mike Carroll, Mike Vallely, Natas Kaupas, Neil Blender, Pat Duffy, PAUL RODRIGUEZ, Rodney Mullen, Steve Caballero, stevie williams, Tom Penny, Tony Alva, Tony Hawk.

Transworld Skateboarding will hit newsstands on 20 December 2011.
