Mason Merlino at Sunnyvale Skatepark

Mason Merlino
Born and bred in Roseburg Oregon, Mason Merlino joins the Lifeblood squad as emerging and talented owerhouse with Italian roots and a deep bag of skateboarding stunts. Despite breaking his ankle with a quick and decisive first-try tail drop on a friend’s mini ramp during his introductory days of skating, his love for it has carried on for the past five years.

And for good reason, at 18 years young Mason is killing it daily on top of his griptape while directly influenced by heavyweight pros and peers like Emmanuel Guzman, Lance Lesher, Mark “Red” Scott and Peter Hewitt. He skates it all too — banks, gaps, ledges, parks, pools, pipes, – you name it; he’ll happily adapt to the terrain in front of him with a huge smile on his face.

Fueled up on his favorite foods like pizza, pasta or steak and usually cranking up the a mix of sonic jams to include Graveyard, Witchcraft, Black Sabbath, Dirt Nasty and Andre Nickatina, Mason charges into skate sessions with a loose style and a clutch of difficult tricks including assortment of blunt stunts. He’s armed with a mean switch frontside blunt too!

Mason refers to skateboard-centric regions like San Francisco, Portland, Oregon and parts of Southern California as some of his favorite West Coast Cities to roll — specifically, SF’s Flower Shop and Potrero Del Sol Skatepark, Portland’s Burnside and Glenhaven skateparks, and San Diego’s Washington Street. The kid certainly knows what he likes and has good taste.

As far as superstitions go, Mason buys into only one — the notion by his friends that white Bic branded butane lighters are bad luck. So he avoids the use of that variety altogether.

When asked of his personal pet peeves or what bothers him in his life, Mason is quick to respond, “Jocks, Chads, and V necks don’t belong.” We couldn’t agree more.

Mason’s other sponsors include: CCS, Vans (flow), Theeve and Brixton (flow)

His words to live by are, “Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.”
