Here are the skateboarding events bound to happen in January 2012.

January is a slow season for skateboarding contest but that’s just because the the start of the new year and this year 2012 is set to be better than 2011 when it comes to skateboarding. Let’s start with the next King of the Groms and King of the Ams Skate Series that will take place on January 13 through January 15, 2012 at the Southside Skatepark, located on 510 Iowa Street in Houston, Texas. Skaters who want to register for the event need to go to the King of the Groms website. There is a $75 initial entrance fee and includes participation in one event. You have to choose the bowl, mini-ramp or street events, or all if you are an all-terrain skater but there will be additional fees. After the January event there will be one more qualifier before the June Championships. The final qualifier is slated to take place February 16th through the 19th at the Kids That Rip Skatepark located on North Gilbert Road in Mesa, Arizona.

Downhill skate racers will have at least two events to look forward to this month. The first is the Wigglin' and Shiverin' TS and Cook-Out which is scheduled to take place on January 7th at Ritter Park in Huntington, West Virginia. The Second is the Martin Luther King of the Hill slated to take place on January 14th at the Poway Pump Station in San Diego County, California. The first event is free and the second requires remittance of a $20 to $30 per person entry fee.

Finally, the Amateur Combi Pool Party will take place January 27th and 28th. It is an invite only event that is held at the Van's Skate Park on City Boulevard in Orange, California. A prize purse of $5,000 will be split between the finalist in each division, with the winner in each taking home $1,000 and the list of confirmed skaters should be posted this week on the WCS website. Additional information can be found on the World Cup of Skateboarding's website. The WCS is also organizing the Hurley Australian Bowl Riding Championships set to take place January 26th through the 28th at Bar Beach in Newcastle Australia.
