Camilo Reyes: The Passenger

The Passenger with Don Camilo
Camilo Reyes: The Passenger

Twenty years ago, Camilo "Jah" Reyes was touring with his sponsors: Hawaii Surf (who still supports), Etnics (now Etnies) and Quiksilver. In 1988, he was a regularly on top places at the coupes de France. At that time, the wage of the winners of contests was meager. No matter, it is with pleasure that he remembers this period. The street style was in its infancy, they had to invent the tricks, there was not even ollie! Do not expect too much nostalgia on his part. If he loved skateboarding in the late 80s, he likes his life just as much today and was surprised by the recognition he still enjoys. Vans France has recently recruited into the oldschool team that has the merit of proposing, in his view, another vision of skateboarding. And who else personifies both the vision? Behind the decks or on the board, Camilo never leaves the viewer indifferent. His music like his tricks reveal part of his story, his travels and encounters, far from the current codes and clichés. Gainsbourg, Nat King Cole Curtis Mayfield or were "educated" his ear. For skateboarding, Mark Gonzales, Natas Kaupas and Steve Caballero have great influence, but that's Christian Hosoi will always remain the ultimate reference.

This video is the first of a road trip call "Off Road". Don Camilo tries to show his vision as a skater singing the song he uses to on his skate. You can see Camilo riding in Hua Hin, Bangkok, Luang Prabang, Hong KOng, Paris... as a Passenger...
