Steve Caballero: winning Runs from Pro-Tec Pool Party 2012

Even after 25+ years, the members of the old Bones Brigade still got it. Anyone who wasn’t lucky enough to be around skateboarding in the 80s when the Bones Brigade was the thing to see, when vert skateboarding and professional rivalry was at its peak, saw some of that energy reinvigorate itself at this year’s Pro-Tec Pool Party 2012. The Masters division took on the look of a Bones Brigade reunion as Steve Caballero claimed first place and $14,000 ahead of fellow Brigade alums Tony Hawk in second, Lance Mountain in third and Mike McGill in fourth. Just in time for the release of the new Bones Brigade movie. It was the first time that those four had competed in the same contest since the early ’90s. What’s more, Stacy Peralta and George Powell were sitting on a bench for the occasion. It was actually the first time that Stacy Peralta was watching a contest in 20 years.
Almost 2 months after he broke his collarbone, Steve Caballero took 1st in the Pro-Tec Party Masters division. Steve said that frontside handplants were a concern because of the mending left shoulder. He eventually won, even if his physical therapy was scheduled to start 4 days after the contest…

"Says... Skateboarding is right where it needs to be, in the hearts of many! I'm reaching my 4 decade in the sport/lifestyle and profession, call it what you will. I have no favorite era, but just amazing memories from each one that spans over my whole involvement rolling around on this wooden toy we all share and have a passion for. I've had many complaints and also just as many praises, but one thing is for sure... I've had no regrets! Skateboarding is so amazing, maybe even more than when i was first got introduced to it in 1976. I love it the same today as i did yesterday and i'm sure i'll love it even more in the future as well. If there's any one thing i would love to see change in skateboarding's future is... attitude. keep it fun and keep it positive."
