Tony Hawk: Protec Pool Party 2012 Rider Profile

Tony Hawk is the best skateboarder in the world. I’m not the one saying it; those are the words of Barack Obama when he invited him at the White House in 2009, as a notable parent for a Father's Day festival.

I know, for few hard core skateboarders, being #1 (or being the best skater) sucks, as if skateboarding was supposed to be forever relinquished to a bleak destiny. You are a rebel or you are #1, you can’t be both at the same time and skateboarding is (was?) the ultimate rebellious act until it was invaded by mainstream. Proof is that recently via Twitter Tony Hawk said that the Pro Skater HD will be released on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network in June. Previously, the game was expected to arrive sometime this summer. If this is not the work of a sellout, what is this?

More seriously, we really believe that Tony Hawk should be awarded the medal of respect. Here’s a guy that has been bullied during the Powell-Peralta days because he was better than the others and invented too many tricks. Here’s a guy that has been bullied because he landed a 900 before anybody else, here’s a guy that helped set up more than 900 skateparks with his own foundation and here’s a guy that has nothing to prove to anybody that’s coming back for the second time to compete at the Pro-Tec Pool Party. Last year, after nearly a decade of absence, he decided to chose the Annual Pro-Tec Pool Party held at the Vans Skate Park in Orange County, California, to make his plunge back into the competitive fray. What else do the hard core skaters want? Blood?

Tony Hawk has his own style that’s different from the others. Yep, he is taller than Cab, so he moves differently in the Combi. Yes, he has an extensive background in vert, so his lines are different from the hard core pool riders. That’s the beauty of it. Everybody has his own style and we loved watching Tony Hawk during the practice for the Pro-Tec Pool Party 2012.
