Christian Hosoi interview: Life + Time

Christian Hosoi, Tuck Knee in Santa Barbara July 1990.

Christian Hosoi went from Heaven to Hell. He had it all, fame, fortune, fans, groupies, world tour, pictures in the magazines. Nothing could be in the way of Christian Hosoi in the 80’s. After the epic fail of skateboarding in the early 80’s, Christian dominated the only remaining part of skateboarding alive: vert skateboarding. Along with Tony Hawk, they showcased the best of skateboarding, each one with his own style, with his own personality. Then, Christian Hosoi’s hard-partying lifestyle derailed his career in the 90’s and he landed in jail in 2000 for a 10-year drug trafficking sentence. It was the end of the road, or so he thought it was. In his prison cell, he received a phone call from Jennifer, his wife, and told her: “ Look, I’m looking at 10 years.” And she replied “You know we just have to trust in God.” Christian was like, wait a minute, “My name is Christian. My nickname was Christ on the cover of Thrasher magazine in ’85. I invented a maneuver called the Christ Air right after that, and never read a Bible God?” So he told Jennifer “Babe, I need a lawyer. I need an attorney. I need bail. What’s God going to do for me?” But she was adamant and said “God’s going to help us. Go get a Bible.

So, he got a Bible and went from Hell to Heaven again. It’s been roughly 10 years that’s he’s been back in the spotlights. His business his back, his sponsors are back, his fans never quit, his fame is intact. Like in the heyday of skateboarding, he tours the world intensively with old pals Jeff Grosso, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Duane Peters and even Tony Hawk himself.
Christian just released a widely publicized book about himself called "My Life as a Skateboarder Junkie Inmate Pastor" and giving here and there interviews. The last interview being for “Life + Time” . If you want to know more about Christian Hosoi, go check his interview

Thanks a lot to Scott Starr for the picture.
