CONVERSE Inc. recently announced the return of Converse Coastal Carnage, a pro/am skate competition consisting of 40 of the world’s premier skateboarders in Huntington Beach, CA. In its fourth year, the highly anticipated skate competition will take place during Nike US Open of Surfing — the world’s largest youth culture and action sports festival owned and produced by IMG, global leader in sports and entertainment. The skate competition is free for spectators and runs Friday, August 3 through Sunday, August 5.
As in years past, Converse Coastal Carnage will be a jam format consisting of 10 qualifying rounds with four riders skating against each other at the same time. As an invite-only, pro/am event, Converse Coastal Carnage combines experienced professionals like U.S. Converse Skateboarding Ambassadors Mike Anderson, Sammy Baca and last year’s Converse Coastal Carnage winner Tom Remillard competing against a wave of fresh new talent including Converse Skateboarding Ambassador Kalani David. Also competing in skateboarding activations on the beach is Converse Skateboarding Ambassador Nick Trapasso.

Additionally, international Converse Skateboarding Ambassadors will join from all over the world to compete in the skateboarding competitions during Nike US Open of Surfing including, Milton Martinez from Argentina, Carlos Ribiero from Brazil, Xiao Xing from China and Geng Jakarrin from Thailand, among others.
“As Converse Coastal Carnage enters its fourth year, we continue to grow the skateboarding competition more and more on a global level” says Darin O’Brien, Vice President, Converse CONS Footwear. “With riders from the United States, China, Brazil and Thailand, we’re excited to bring our fiercest competition to Huntington Beach to date.”
Converse Coastal Carnage brings the look and feel of a retro pool to a modern skate competition. The course gets a major update from previous years with a double wooden bowl with plenty of hips, tight corners and mellow transitions; and will incorporate new obstacles that allow new and creative ways for skaters to approach the competition.
The Converse Skate Pavilion, a mini-bowl located directly in front of the main course, also returns this year and is free and open to the public. Anyone with a board is welcome to skate, and as an added bonus, skaters will get a chance to try out the latest Converse skateboarding product in the Skate Pavillion.
